In the Middle of the Night
by Claudia

Crash! I woke up suddenly when I heard the noise downstairs. My heart was thumping. What could it be? I got out of bed and walked slowly down the stairs. ..

I screamed!! There in front of me was a thing staring back at me with cold, bloodshot eyes. It was a ghost, I knew it straight away. The light flickered. I thought please, please don't go out!

But of course it did. I stumbled around in the dark trying to find the door. I went past it many times but you don't think properly when you know a ghost is somewhere around you.

I had no idea what was happening, what had I done wrong to deserve this? At last I found the doorknob.

By now I was beginning to think that I had never even seen a ghost and only a plate or something had fell and broke on the floor. I opened the door and a gush of relief swept over me. I felt the warm summer air around me and I ran out into the garden to my kind neighbour Susan's house. When I knocked frantically on the door she came rushing out in a frilly nightgown.

Susan did not actually believe that I had seen a ghost, but she could see that I was upset about something she said that I could sleep in her guestroom. I tried to go to sleep but I couldn't so I went and got myself some freshly baked scones that Susan said I could help myself to. Soon I realised that it must be a hassle for Susan to keep me here so I left her a note and went home.

I climbed into bed and fell fast asleep.

The next day went quickly and soon I felt myself getting into bed again. That night I sat upright in bed. I had heard another crash.

This time I was even more afraid. I slowly walked down the stairs and found myself looking at the ghost for a second time. I couldn't even scream. It was walking towards me wailing. The wails were high and echoing. I couldn't stand it, I was screaming "Stop it! Stop it!"

I walked backwards until I felt my back bump into the wall. I felt misty, cold hands around my neck. . . . .

I sat up in bed. Birds chirped outside my window, sunlight streamed through the curtains. I looked at my digital clock- 7:48. I remembered all that had happened and realised it must have all been a dream.

I got out of bed and walked downstairs to make breakfast. I then remembered how Susan had been so kind to let me stay the night.

I walked over to her house and knocked on the door. Susan opened it. Her jaw dropped. All the colour in her cheeks vanished. She stared at me petrified. Then Susan let out one long, shrill, piercing scream and ran.

I looked down at my hands, they were misty and tramsparent. I also noticed that I could float weightlessly and walk through walls.

I was a ghost!

How to Make a Patchwork Quilt.
By Alexis
You will need:
  • Material
  • Paper
  • Needle
  • Thread/Cotton
  • Scissors
  • Wadding
  • Hexagonal Template
What to do:
1. Trace hexagons onto a piece of paper and cut them out.
2. Cut out bigger hexagons using the template and your material.
3. Get both your paper and material hexagons and tack them together.
4. Join the hexagons together using very small stitches.
5. Continue joining hexagons together until you have reached your desired quilt size.
6. Undo all the tacking and then take all the paper out.
7. Tack wadding onto the back of patches.
8. Put the material onto the right side of the quilt and sew it on but leave an opening at one end.
9. Pull it inside out so that the patches are once again showing.
10.Handstitch the opening you made and your quilt is finished.
