Vaucluse House Excursion
As part of their unit of work about Families Past and Present, Year 2 visited Vaucluse House. Here are two student's recounts of their day.

On Tuesday 10 August, 2/1B and 1B (Mrs Bloom’s class) went to Vaucluse House. First we went to the Dairy room. It was white. Inside it were butter churns, pots and fly screens for windows. Next we went to the Washroom. Every morning the scullery maid went to the Washroom. There were plates, towels and a sink. I thought it was the kitchen.

Next we went to the real kitchen.  There was a fireplace for boiling water and making toast. Some of the kids got an object. While we were talking about the objects some people got dressed as three of the Wentworth children. When we finished talking about the objects we were split into two groups. My group went to the Second room. In the Second room every night the Wentworths sat while one of the grownups read a book, while the other wrote a letter. Next we went to Mr and Mrs Wentworth’s bedroom. They had three mattresses, straw, horse hair and feathers. They had a toilet in the stairs to the bedroom.

Next we went through the hall. In the hall there was a picture of the three Wentworth sisters in their garden. We walked to through the hall till we came to the First room. There was a big mirror to reflect the light. Next we went for a walk through the vegetable garden. After we played the games. The games were, croquet, skittles, tug-o-war, quoits and trying to get the ball into a cup. After that we went back to school on a bus. My favourite part was when we played the games.

 On Tuesday 10 August 2004 2/1B and 1B went to Vaucluse House. First we went on the bus. Then we arrived at Vaucluse House. When we arrived we met Nicholas and Diana, our guides. Then Diana opened a box for us to put our food in.

Then we went through the time tunnel. We sat around a well. Then we went to the Dairy Room. Nicholas showed us the pots that they put the dairy milk in. Next we went to the Washroom. We saw the plates and the towels for drying them. Next we went to the Kitchen and we saw a jam melon, flat out cucumber. Then we saw Darcy, William and Laura’s undies. Then we saw Bronte dressed like Laura, Brett dressed like Darcy and Oscar dressed like William. After that we went to the Second Room. We saw an eagle feather and a note that had wax on it. After that we went to the First Room. We saw the mirror that reflects the lights and the candles. Then we went to the Hall and we saw the three sisters in a picture. Then we went to the children’s Room where we saw the bath and the toy box. Then we went to have lunch. After that we went to the vegetable garden and saw lots of plants. Then we played games tug-o-war and skittles.

Then we went back on the bus to school. I thought it was a great excursion.
