EXCURSIONS

To support their learning, students at Bellevue Hill Public School may attend a number of excursions. A few of them are outlined below.

Canberra/Snowy Mountains - Stage 3

After studying a unit about Democracy and Government, students visited Canberra and the Snowy Mountains.  The trip was three great days of sightseeing and learning. We visited Parliament House meeting our local member and seeing where the laws that govern our country are made, participated in a mock election, visited the AIS to compare our sporting prowess with our great athletes, played in the snow, learnt about the sacrifices Australians made during the wars at the War Memorial and had a great time too!

Bathurst - Stage 3

After studying a unit of work about Gold, Stage 3 students visited Bathurst, Jenolan Caves and the old goldfields. First stop was the Blue Mountains followed by Little Hartley. Students were locked in the lockup and quite a few people were shocked at how hard things were in the 'olden days'. Overnight accommodation was at the Bathurst Sheep and Cattle Drome where students also saw a show about Australian animals and learnt how lambs have their tails removed.  After a night's rest they went to History Hill Museum, into a mine (some people didn't make it all the way through and had to turn back) and then panning for gold. Nobody found a fortune! The night's entertainment was a bush dance and then everyone headed to bed. On the final day the bus drove a lap of the famous Mount Panorama circuit and then visited another museum.  Jenolan Caves which were spectacular were the last destination.  Everyone was exhausted but they all had a great time.

Taronga Zoo

As part of our Buddies program and studies on Australian animals, kindergarten, and years three and 5 visited Taronga Park Zoo.  Each class had a lesson in the Education Centre where they were able to touch some Australian animals including a koala, wombat and snakes.  Mark had to feed the tawny frogmouth a dead mouse!  After the lessons students walked around the zoo and looked at all the amazing animals.

Centennial Park

Years I and 6 visited Centennial Park for a lesson about Environmental protection.  Students collected and analysed samples from within the park and learnt about pollution.

The first activity was insect netting which involved students using a dip net to trawl the water for insects. After that students went on a habitat walk looking for animals.  They spotted a tawny frogmouth.  After that they heard some bush stories and made grass heads in the bush craft activity.
