THE SPORTS PROGRAM
A specialist sports teacher is employed at
Bellevue Hill PS to ensure that all students develop good skills in a
variety of sports. Each class has a scheduled Physical Education
lesson as well as Friday afternoon sport. Swimming, cross country
and athletics carnivals are held annually. Following the school
carnivals, students can go on to represent the school, district, region,
and state.
A variety of sports, both competitive and
non-competitive, are available for Stage 2 and 3 students on Friday
afternoons: Summer - Cricket, Softball/Teeball, Swimming, Bowling
and Tennis, and Winter - Soccer, Rugby league, Netball, Bowling,
Gymnastics and Ice Skating.
The aims of the Bellevue Hill PS Sport
program are:

To develop the physical well being of the
child and to improve physical fitness through a wide range of
activities, both with and without apparatus.
- To develop the physical powers of strength,
flexibility and cardio-endurance.
- To provide motivation for children to
participate in active recreation throughout their lives.
- Involvement of all, including
non-sporting types.
- To develop social interaction through
team participation.
- To develop quick thinking as an integral
part of team - participation.
- Give each child an awareness of his/her
own strengths and weaknesses.
- To promote good sportsmanship.
- To help children use physical activity as
a means of expression.
- To promote improvement in self concept.
- To teach the rules of minor and
major games.
- To contribute to the development of a
strong, healthy, mobile body.
- To enjoy a variety of physical
activities.
